New Assignment: Create a Wanted: Polygon Person Posters
The students will create a Wanted: Polygon Person poster by using all the different types of polygons- triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and octagons- to create a person. For example, the student can use any polygon such as a hexagon for the head of the person and two equilateral triangles for the eyes, etc. After designing a person, the students will write a paragraph describing their person by using appropriate geometry terms on an index card. They will transfer their written description onto the blog as a post. Once all 'Wanted' posters are created, students will be responsible for matching the description with the polygon person.
Welcome!
Welcome to my first blog! I am creating this blog to go along with my geometry unit for my third grade students. The students have been learning about the different types of polygons and the next assignment will be a performance based assessment that they will complete in class. Stay tuned!
So, why exactly am I doing this? Well, I find it essential that students have the opportunity to use technology for assignments because not only does it prepare them for the future, it also maintains a great sense of motivation and engagement. With this assignment, students can easily use the internet and create blog posts in a safe environment. Posting their Wanted descriptions during class does not take too much time and within two days, the entire class will have had plenty of time to post. The follow up assignment at home will require students to navigate through my blog and add any comments that are appropriate. Parents should monitor their child throughout the homework assignment.
